There is one further competition in March, the PROSTATE CANCER UK CHARITY TEXAS SCRAMBLE, on Thursday 29th March. The sign-up sheet for this event is currently posted on the Noticeboard.

6NB failure to comply with any of these requirements will leave players liable to disqualification.

Our second competition of 2018 was held on Tuesday 6th February. 48 hardy souls braved the chilly though latterly sunny conditions to play a best three-scores-of-four Team Stableford.  On a clearly difficult day for scoring, Seniors Captain Graham Ramm's team came in with a near par total score of 106 stableford points. In second place were Brian Peters, Chris Castle, Chris Barker and Chris Davy (105 points) and in third, John Piper, David Walker, Paul Prentice and Steve Wells with 103 points. Even better, Graham raised almost £200 for his Captain's charity, Prostate Cancer UK, in a raffle kindly sponsored by the Brome Grange Hotel. Graham (centre) is pictured here with his team mates, (left to right) Roger Greenacre, John Sparks and Ron Ashdown. Also in the picture is Graz Lembo, who won the raffle prize of a three course meal for two at the Brome Grange!

In his post-round remarks, Graham thanked all those present both for supporting the event on such a cold day, and especially for their tremendous donations towards his chosen 2018 charity.

The first Seniors competition of the year, the JANUARY TEXAS SCRAMBLE, took place  on Tuesday 16th January in difficult windy conditions. The clear winners by almost three strokes was the team comprising Tom Keys, Arthur Hamilton, Alan Stanley and Brian Kinnair. Well played guys! Thanks to all 52 entrants for taking part but especially to the players who answered Mike Doig's call to play when some had to withdraw.

In 2018, the Seniors Section will play 40 friendly inter-club matches (home and away) between March and October against a wide range of clubs in Suffolk and Norfolk. These enable participants to play courses they might not normally play and to enjoy a convivial round and a nice lunch with like-minded retirees.

Unfortunately, the season has not got off to the best of starts with the traditional opener against Rookery Park falling victim to the Beast from the East (this will be rescheduled in due course) and the second match v Seckford on 13th March ending in a 6-2 home defeat.  Better days must surely lie ahead!

The team sheets for the following fixtures have now been posted on the Noticeboard: Hintlesham (away - 19th March), Caldecott (away - 21st March).  Please tick your name on the sheets to confirm your continued availability as a player or reserve. Sign-Up sheets for the following matches have also now been posted: Dereham (Home - 3rd April) and Costessey Park (Home - 5th April) and Haverhill (Home - 12th April). Click here to view the full 2018 fixtures schedule.

We also compete  in the Suffolk Golf Union Seniors knockout competitions, i.e. the Parks Trophy (for handicaps 0-12) and the Beaumont Trophy (for handicaps 13-20). The Captains of our county teams in 2018 are Ken Bowman (Parks Trophy) and Mike Doig (Beaumont Trophy). We have been drawn to play Fynn Valley GC in the Parks on 21st May and Ufford Park GC in the Beaumont on 14th May.  Anyone interested in being considered for selection should sign up without delay  on the notice posted on the Men's and Seniors Noticeboards.
