Congratulations to Ken Bowman who won the John Sparks Cup on 6th November with a score of 38 Stableford points, narrowly edging out Paul Saunders and John Doe who both scored one less on 37 points. In so doing, Ken confirmed his status as the most consistent Senior golfer of the year by winning the Order of Merit by over 30 points!

Our next event is the Geoff Beaujeux Trophy Texas Scramble on Tuesday 20th November (Shotgun Start at 9:00am). The Sign-Up Sheet for this event has now been posted on the Noticeboard with players teeing off in four ball teams.

After the Geoff Beaujeux Trophy, there remain only two further Seniors competitions this year: the Roy Hilbourne Turkey Trot on 4th December (nine hole competition, after which the Seniors AGM will take place at 1:00pm) and the Bill Batley Trophy on Thursday 13th December (nine hole competition using only three clubs, one of which must be a recognised putter!).

Please note the following important competition reminders:

1 Ensure you have an active CONGU handicap before the day of the competition
2Exchange your card with one of your playing partners and mark each others scores
3After the round, check your card carefully, ensuring that you and your marker both sign it.
4Feed your scores in to the How Did I Do screen in the clubhouse
5Deposit your score card in the post box next to the How Did I Do screen
6NB failure to comply with any of these requirements will leave players liable to disqualification.

In 2018, the Seniors Section played 40 friendly inter-club matches (home and away) between March and October against a wide range of clubs in Suffolk and Norfolk. These enabled participants to play courses they might not normally play and to enjoy a convivial round and a nice lunch with like-minded retirees. The final match of the season against Haverhill (away) unfortunately ended in a 5-3 loss but the team still managed an excellent record over the course of the season, winning 21 matches, halving 3 and losing 16.

The inaugural Seniors Winter League season involving Bungay, Caldecott Hall, Diss, Halesworth, Rookery Park, Southwold and Yarmouth and Caister is now underway. Our first match at home on 8th November against Bungay ended in a halved match 2-2, with wins for Dave King & Mike Doig and Ian Burton and Clive Lodge and narrow defeats by Graham Ramm & Bob Fryer and Graham Lickfold & Peter Abery.

Our remaining Winter League match fixtures (8 man teams playing in foursomes format) will take place on the following dates:

22nd November- Caldecott Hall (away)
9th January - Halesworth (away)
24th January - Southwold (home)
31st January - Yarmouth and Caister (away)
14th February - Rookery Park (home)

The sign-up sheet for the Caldecott Hall match has been posted on the Noticeboard. Please sign-up if you would like to be considered for selection.
