1st October 2018

A fabulous win for Diss Ladies against Felixstowe Ferry which has a much larger ladies section than Diss to draw from.
The team:
1st pair Sarah Gotts and Becky Draper won on the 18th
2nd pair Val Mendham and Jane Izod had an amazing 7 & 6 win
3rd pair Phillipa Bridges and Jenny Chamberlin won 3 & 2 although the match had already been won.
The conditions were good but a cold wind kept the jumpers on.
Many thanks to Steph Mendham for being the team captain and for all the many supporters who came to cheer the team on, it makes all the difference.
The last time Diss won this competition was 20 years ago to the day and Ruth Ingram, one of the supporters, was in that winning side.

9th September 2018

Wow we won the first time in the shield's 5 year history! The team,Jenny Chamberlin, Pat Parker, Liz Speak, Sandra Bowman, Phillipa Bridges, Val Mendham, Marie Needham and Jane Fishwick won against Woodbridge ladies at Ipswich GC by 3 holes.
The match was played in very good spirits in ideal weather conditions. However the fairways on the course were challenging with very little grass in some places and as ever at Ipswich the bunkers were ready to catch you out.
Very many thanks to Marianne Haines who captained the team.
Thanks also to Sarah Gotts the Ladies Captain who is always so encouraging, the caddies and our great supporters including Club Captain David Mould and club President Peter Mendham who gave up their Sunday to cheer us on.
The photo shows the team, caddies and supporters with the Shield.

28th August 2018

The annual competition was played in awful conditions of mostly heavy rain which we haven't been used to for months. 23 ladies took part in the qualifying stableford competition for the Pauline Burroughes Silver Salver.
David Burroughes, Pauline's youngest son, presented the prize to the winner, Kerry Enever who got 35 points which showed the difficult conditions.
Becky Draper and Philippa Bridges came 2nd and 3rd.

21st August 2018

Cretingham Charity Day

Several Diss ladies took part in the annual charity day at the newly refurbished Cretingham golf club. It was a lovely friendly day and we the visitors were all made very welcome as usual.
Diss ladies took their fair share of prizes with Helena Honour winning nearest the pin for the visitors and Jane Fishwick runner up on count back for the visitors with 31 points. Sam Edwards won for Cretingham, as she has dual membership, with 32 points. The scores reflected the difficulty of the course conditions, especially the pin positions which were very tricky.
The photo shows Helena and Jane from Diss and Anne from Cretingham who "won" being in the most bunkers, 4!

20th August

Semi Final Suffolk Senior Jubilee Shield

The postponed match against Halesworth at Woodbridge was played in much better conditions today than the practice round which was played in 35oC heat and no grass on the fairways.

The annual past captains competition had 12 competitors including one past captain, Mary Pacy now at Bungay. The weather was a lot kinder to us, not too hot, windy or wet, and the grass is starting to return on the fairways.
The winner was Ruth Ingram with a very good score of 38, 2nd Sam Edwards with 35 and Jane Fishwick with 33. The photo shows the 3 winners with immediate past captain, Jenny Chamberlin and current captain Sarah Gotts.

Very well done to Sarah Gotts and Kerry Enever who won this match annual Suffolk Ladies County Coronation Foursomes at Newton Green , not to be confused with the Coronation Foursomes which is a regional competition.
The competition is a 27 hole medal format. Sarah and Kerry achieved a nett 69 in the morning 18 hole round and nett 37.5 in the afternoon 9 hole competition resulting in a total of 106.5 this beat the nearest rivals from Bury St Edmunds who scored 110.
This continues the very good results which Diss GC have been achieving not only in the Ladies section but across the board. It shows how tricky our home course is.
The photo shows Sarah and Kerry with their salvas.

16th JUNE 2018

There was a good turnout of 80 members taking part in the annual Fine & Country Stableford competition in lovely June weather.
The greens were great but the fairways are suffering a bit with the very dry and windy weather which made for some interesting bounces and a lot of carry.
The winner of the competition overall was Sandra Bowman with a fantastic score of 43. Apparently 30/80 players came in with scores of handicap or better.
Many thanks to Chris Scott of Fine and Country for once again sponsoring the day and giving away the prizes.

A lovely day to hold this annual event sponsored by Roger Laurie.
20 ladies took part in the competition:

Good luck Sarah and Kerry!

14th February

Yet another windy wintry day but thankfully no rain. 14 ladies took part in the competition which really makes you think which clubs to take in the first place and then how to use what little you have.
One of those taking part seemed to know, Marie Needham who got a hole-in-one on the 15th!
1st Liz Hayward with 31 very good to see one of our newer ladies winning
2nd Becky Draper with 29 closely followed by Pat Parker with 28.
Well done to all for turning out in the conditions.

20th December

Becky Draper organised a fun competition over 12 holes which entailed specially marked "snowflake " balls which counted for enhanced points on certain holes, lengths of tinsel to help place the ball and all sorts of silliness. A bit confusing for some people but we all had great fun.
The eventual winners after working out the scoring were Monica Comer, Marie Needham and Becky Draper with 71. Second were Ruth Ingram, Liz Hayward and Philippa Bridges with 68.

13th December

At the beginning of the golfing year in April, Marie won a raffle prize generously donated by our Lady Captain, Jenny Chamberlin. This was for one years membership, the Lady Captain has her membership cost waiverd during her year . Marie decided to put some of this money towards an initiative to bring in more lady members to the club. She worked with Nigel to put together a package of free group lessons with coffee and cake afterwards. This attracted 13 ladies to the programme and so far 3 have joined with hopefully more to follow. She also arranged for some experienced ladies to play three holes with some of these ladies which was successful.
The photo shows Marie receiving a lovely seasonal Poinsettia from Jenny

13th December

The Christmas Texas scramble was very well attended in much better than expected weather. The format had a bit of a twist as a "snowflake" ball was pasted between the teams of three. If the person playing with the the snowflake ball scored then that stableford score was doubled. However if the ball was lost no more double scoring was possible. We all had great fun.
1st Kerry Enever, Joan Norman and Ruth Ingram with a very impressive 109
2nd Katharine Allen, Becky Draper and Betty Belson with 103
3rd Philippa Bridges, Lynda Ivison and Gina Peliti with 89

This very popular annual event was held on the 4th October with 20 teams from 18 different clubs from Norfolk & Suffolk. The weather on the day was quite chilly but dry, unlike the previous year when it was very wet. The competition format was a Team Stableford (teams of four) and some very good scores were recorded. The winning team from Woodbridge G.C with an excellent score o 104 Stableford points were: Ann Graves, Sheila Burgess, Pippa Neall and Gina Nielson. The runners up from Newton Green G.C came close with 102 Stableford Points.
Diss G.C Ladies Captain, Jenny Chamberlin, had many people to thank for their great organisation of the event, excellent food for the "half way house", ball spotting etc. The Ladies Captain also thanked club members, Management and visitors for their support and to DGC catering team for a lovely meal for the event.
A raffle was held, (prizes kindly donated by DGC members), with the profits going to the Lady Captain's charity the MS Society. An excellent £485.00 was raised. The photo shows the winners along with the Lady Captain.

This annual competition was held in very difficult windy conditions but at least it didn't rain. The format is rather different for most competitions with medal scoring on the front 9 and stableford on the back an on par score should be 18.

Eleven Diss ladies went to Pidley for a fun couple of days on a very green course. There were some incredibly tricky greens which challenged us all. The bunkers took their toll as well but most of us stayed out of the water.
Kerry Enever was the overall winner even after having had her handicap cut by 2 after winning on the first day as well as collecting nearest the pin.
The staff at Pidley treated us very well once again the only disappointment being that they closed the bowling alley early.
We even managed to miss the rain which drenched Diss.
Many thanks to Sarah Gotts for organising the weekend once again and to our captain Jenny Chamberlin for prizes.
